Icing sheets come with a plastic backing which should be peeled off before adding to your cake. Sheets are best added to fondant covered cakes, can be added to buttercream cakes like costco cakes etc but should be added just before presenting as the direct contact from buttercream can cause the sheet to deteriate over time. To prevent this you can also back your sheet with a thin rolled out layer of fondant.
